In 1925, the German company RAL was officially founded as an independent quality assurance agency. Two years later, RAL launched the first edition of the 40-colour RAL Colour Chart, mainly for the automotive industry, with the aim of streamlining paint production and purchasing. When selecting and ordering colours, the uniform colour numbers and names make colour communication very clear and simple, e.g. “Rolls 3020 Traffic Red” stands for the same colour worldwide. Today, the 2,540 different Lauer colour assortments are the first colour standard for users in the design and construction sector due to their stability.

For almost 100 years, the RAL colours have stood for reliable colour communication and high-quality products. With the assortments RAL Classic, RAL Design System plus and RAL Effectiveness we have 2,540 colour fans at our disposal. Professional designers from a wide variety of industries use the functional design tools of RAL Colour on a daily basis. With the goal of further expanding the product range and using sustainable resources, RAL Colour will continue to be a strong partner for design and building professionals in the future. Since 2005, the Lauer Colour Trend Experience has offered design professionals a trend-oriented, scientifically based guide for long-term colour combinations. It can be applied to many different scenarios. In this way, the diverse design possibilities are expanded through a future-oriented approach.

RAL is committed to creating an innovative colour world. Every year new products are launched or existing products are further developed according to the market demand, once a year the future global colour trends are published and books are published and professional trainings for different fields are offered.

For almost 100 years RAL has stood for high quality and environmentally conscious design. This is confirmed by the decision to offer the colour trend collection free of charge, right up to the awarding of the Blue Angel eco-label. Since 1978, RAL has been testing and guaranteeing that products and services awarded the Blue Angel meet the high requirements for environmental protection, health and usability.
